The Queensland Spatial Information Council (QSIC) provides strategic direction and a framework for the development and use of spatial information to support business, community and the environment across the State. QSIC is uniquely characterised by all sectors of the industry, meeting as equal partners to assure the progression and success of the Queensland spatial information industry:

Industry - Australian Spatial Information Business Association (ASIBA);
Natural Resource Management Groups - Queensland Regional Natural Resource Management Groups Collective;
Professions - Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI);
Universities - Australian Spatial Information Education and Research Association (ASIERA);
Local Government - Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ); and
Queensland Government Departments

Working with these groups, QSIC is responsible for driving major spatial information initiatives that optimises the collection, management and use of Queensland’s spatial information resources. The Queensland Spatial Strategy business unit in the Department of Environment and Resource Management implements the key strategies identified by QSIC. These strategies address awareness and understanding, data availability, access collaboration and capacity building. Working groups established by QSIC to tackle specific issues include:

  • • Spatial Imagery Working Group
    • Spatial Innovations Queensland
    • Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Working Group
    • Addressing Working Group
    • State Digital Road Network Working Group
    • Foundation Spatial Data Working Group
    • Education Working Group
